Back to School Pencil Wreath

One of my goals this year is to make new wreaths for my front door, so naturally, a Back to School wreath is needed! Due to having a child care center in my home, I have may people coming to the front door each day. I want it to be attractive and inviting. Plus, I crave the creative aspect of making a project like this.

Supplies:

  • Floral & Craft base, 12″
  • Burlap ribbon
  • Pencils, 80 shown (currently .97/20 at Walmart)
  • Hot glue & glue gun
  • Ribbon
  • Felt
  • mini chalkboard or other decorative items

Directions:

Wrap and glue burlap onto wreath base.

Then start gluing pencils around wreath, spacing them as you go. This is not the easiest, in my experience. Mine is not perfect, like this one, but if perfect is what you’re looking for, I’m not claiming to offer it! The inner and outer circles are hard to get even. Maybe it’s my lack of patience?  Anyway, I like it!

To make the felt roses I followed this tutorial on Linden & Lace. Love that, Linden for a boy’s name.

My bow was made slightly based on this post at Tidbits & Twine. Oh dear, the hot glue really shows up in the picture but it’s not noticeable and of course, comes right off.

My mini chalkboard in the center was in a pack of 3 from Target and the mini clip-on chalkboard was a purchase from Pick Your Plum.

A fun way to celebrate back to school!
