What can I say…. ? I love Valentine’s Day! It could be said it’s just another card shop holiday but how sad is it for those people?! We don’t always buy cards but I’d have to say, it was one of the things about my husband that I noticed before we got married. He gave me beautiful cards with his own handwritten thoughts added. It means a lot! I loved teaming up with #CollectiveBias and #MyPicknSave, the popular Milwaukee Grocery destination, to shop for everything I needed for a Valentine’s Day celebration from cards, candy, baking supplies, fresh flowers, cupcakes and cookies. When I shopped it was a bit early for all the extras that will be available next week in time for Valentine’s day but there will be a large selection of fresh flowers and even heart shaped steaks!
Twenty (20!) years ago this February, Damon asked me to marry him. While I wasn’t really expecting it, it wasn’t a complete surprise either. We had been dating long distance since the previous spring. The 2nd weekend we were together we talked about “if we got married” types of things so I think we both knew. It was a simple proposal and all that was needed. It was February 4, so just before Valentine’s Day since he needed to take finals or something at Michigan State the weekend of Valentine’s Day. There’s more to this story and it’s quite interesting but anyway, the main point is that I said “yes!” We went skiing the next day in bitterly cold temps and Damon wasn’t feeling well. It turns out he had mono and by the following week, I also had mono. Ah, memories!
Now we celebrate Valentine’s Day together as a family. Truth is, we eat out a lot – we can do that anytime so I like to make a special meal for us. It’s so appealing to have plan a warm cozy dinner at home with candles, dessert and music on a cold February night. I love this Strawberry Salad, it’s perfect for Valentine’s Day! The homemade dressing and strawberries are such a wonderful combination. Along side steak or fish and it’s nice a dinner at home. In the dead of winter fresh berries are such a treat!

It’s not Valentine’s Day without chocolate and nothing goes better with chocolate than fresh raspberries! My Chocolate Marshmallow Raspberry Cake is simple – made from a mix – but the homemade frosting combination and berries makes it extra special.

I love your engagement story! That's so sweet. My hubby proposed at a basketball game on the jumbotron. It was my dream proposal. I went to high school with a guy who plays in the NBA and we went to see him play that night. Then at half time a really sweet message came up on the jumbotron and he stood up and gave me a gorgeous diamond. I wasn't entirely surprised. We had been talking about getting married and I was 3 months pregnant (whoops). It was great, though. That said, I'm SO jealous that your hubby does sweet, thoughtful cards. My husband doesn't do cards hardly at all, ever. I'm a total romantic and dated a musician in high school. That guy set the standard for card-givers for life and my hubby, God Bless Him, just doesn't measure up in that department. HAHA! OH well. There's always cake with chocolate, marshmallows, and raspberries. And Pick 'n Save. There's always Pick 'n Save. :) #client
