Phone Number Bracelets

community helpers - police officer - phone number bracelets

As part of our police officer community helpers day we made phone number bracelets out of wood beads. We talked about the importance of asking for help if lost and how police officers help people in all kinds of situations.

First I asked the parents to write down the phone number their child should know. Although my preschoolers may not actually memorize it at this point, it’s important we use the one the parents mainly use. With everyone having multiple phone numbers it can get confusing!

I put together little kits so each child could assemble their own bracelet. On the phone number chart, I colored in the number squares to coordinate to the color and number on the bead that was chosen for each digit of their phone number. I wrote each number with permanent marker on two sides of a wood bead. {The marker may eventually wear off so consider the finish on the bead – I thought about sealing the marker with clear nail polish but didn’t get that far. It will last for a while at least!} Also included in each kit was a plastic needle, twine string for lacing and a few extra spacing beads. Really this became a number and color coordinating activity as well as a lesson in phone numbers and fine motor skills.

I supervised or checked each bracelet as they started lacing, making sure each one had their numbers in order.community helpers - police officer - phone number bracelets

These bracelets turned out so colorful and adorable! They were very proud of their work and I was so proud of them turning each bead to see the number and identifying it. Hopefully none of these dear ones will ever find themselves lost but it was a good little lesson in numbers!community helpers - police officer - phone number bracelets
