Teddy Bear Picnic Preschool Activities

One of our summer weekly themes for June was “Teddy Bear Picnic”.  There are so many Teddy Bear Picnic Preschool Activities and not enough time for all the great ideas I found, but I’ll show you what we did.

Cinnamon Paint Teddy Bears:

Simply adding cinnamon to brown tempera paint gives these teddy bears texture and a great scent! I cut the edge with pinking shears but the kids can certainly cut out their own if they are able.

Picnic Table Cloth Painting with “Ketchup & Mustard”

Using a plastic sink mat from the dollar store, we used red and yellow paint to make a checked pattern on cardstock, resembling a tablecloth pattern.

Teddy Bear Sensory Sorting

Using teddy bear counters and colored foam shapes in the table, spoons and scoops were used to to catch bears or shapes and sort them into the baskets.

Teddy Bear Snack

We used a piece of french toast but you can use regular toast as well to make a cute bear face snack. Slice bananas for the ears and nose, adding raisins or chocolate chips for the eyes and tip of the nose. So cute!

Ants in the Pants Fingerprint Art

You can expect ants at a picnic!  Cut a simple pants shape from blue construction paper. Kids can use their fingers to make ant bodies – head, thorax and abdomen, and then draw lines for legs.

Oatmeal Play Dough

Oatmeal play dough has a unique texture and a more natural look. {recipe here>>} “Porridge Oats” from Imagination Tree was my inspiration for this fitting in to our Teddy Bear Picnic theme, you know like in the story Goldilocks and the 3 Bears? Ours was more crumbly since I used some steel-cut oats combined with regular oats, which is what I had at the time.

Picnic Lunch

It rained the day (whole week) we were doing our teddy bear picnic activities so our picnic was held indoors. No one minded! We used our picnic table cloth and I served our regular lunch menu, which this day was: bean & cheese quesadillas, carrot sticks and cherry tomatoes, strawberries and milk. I don’t always serve lunch family style because our room setup is limiting and it’s difficult to have everyone sit together like this so this was extra special. The kids did bring their bears or stuffed animals but put them next to their chair during lunch.

In the past, I’ve put out a sign-out sheet and parents sign up to bring in foods for our picnic such as string cheese, grapes, crackers or cookies.
