First of all, this is a beautiful book! It contains one-of-a-kind activities, never before seen on the blog. The activities included are great for a range of ages. They’re fun, educational and engaging.

As a parent and child care provider, I appreciate that the activities are simple and easy to follow. They require few materials overall. Each activity includes a materials list and modifications for different ages of children. There’s explanations, tips, drawings and color photos.

This is a great activity for Brett. Now that he’s 11 years old, not as much attracts his interest. He really enjoyed this and used words like “epic” and “awesomeness”.  Milk Explosions are really a combination of science and art.

  1. First pour some cream (whole milk or cream works best) onto a plate.
  2. Then drip food coloring into the cream.
  3. Next dip  a cotton swab into some liquid dish soap and touch the surface of the milk.
  4. The milk explodes in color!
  5. As the colors swirl, dip a piece of cardstock onto the milk.

He really enjoyed swirling the colors and watching them blend. Your results will vary depending on how much your child plays with it. I don’t think you can go wrong however it turns out – it’s fun and colorful!

What surprised me about this painting technique is that you can let it dry and use it as art, even on a canvas. The book provides modifications for younger kids and older kids, which is perfect for me since I work with a mixed age group.

So many wonderful ideas for not only crafts but boredom busters, pranks, games and simple science experiments. This is a great “tried & true” resource for anyone with kids or who works with kids! It would also make a wonderful gift for any family or child care provider.
