We’re heading into the last weeks of school, which means summer before we know it! Now that our son Brett is older, he has some freedoms which include riding his bike a few places and hanging out with friends. He’s 12 and very responsible overall, but recently he damaged his used phone and it became unusable. In all honesty, we didn’t have a decent protective case on it so it’s not surprising this happened. Too late now. I know, kids don’t necessarily *need* phones, but we want him to have one. It’s a different world we live in. We no longer have a home phone, actually haven’t for many years, so we depend on our cell phones. I don’t like the feeling of not being able to get in touch with Brett if he’s away from home or vice versa. Of course we wanted the lowest priced unlimited plans if possible.
After looking at our options, we purchased the Samsung Galaxy Avant ($149) and the Unlimited Talk, Text & Data service plan through Walmart Family Mobile, which includes up to 500MB (actually just increased to 1 GB!) of 4G LTE data.
The Samsung Galaxy Avant is a great phone! Walmart Family Mobile service is $29.88/month(for the first line) Unlimited Talk, Text & Data service plan which includes up to 1GB of 4G LTE data. This is a post paid plan.
Previously his phone service (through another provider) was quite limited – just talk and text for $20/month. No data at all, which he wasn’t thrilled about. So I feel this is great deal – for $10 more than we were paying before, he now has Unlimited Talk Textand Data/Web. Who doesn’t want that?! Brett’s a very happy boy!
He finds lots of uses for his new phone including using Instagram, Words Chums, YouTube, taking photos, Google-ing who knows what, making videos and playing games. He recently started a 4-H project for Visual Arts, so he checked out Pinterest for a chalkboard project idea and came up with this pop bottle cap chalkboard for his room. It fits his style!
Pop Bottle Cap Chalkboard
1. Brett choose his chalkboard base – a pallet style wall hanging. He painted it with chalkboard paint.
2. Next it needed to be sanded.
3. He hot glued glittered clips to the bottom to hang photos and papers.
4. After choosing his favorites and arranging the caps, he started to hot glue them on. We used a piece of packing peanut type foam to glue to the inside of the cap and then glue onto the board.
5. The board came with a twine hanger so he can hang it up or lean it on his shelf.
A cool project for a boy’s room.
We are big data users. Our family likes to read, use apps and keep in touch. Brett is really enjoying being able to use data, especially on the bus. He spends an hour both in the a.m. and p.m. riding the bus so this really helps pass the time. As parents, we are thrilled that he can have a data plan that is inexpensive! Now we need to switch to Walmart Family Mobile and save even more money!
Look for this display at Walmart in the entertainment section at Walmart. This was the simplest, quickest way we’ve ever purchased and set up a cell phone! We also need the starter kit, which is $25. It contains the SIM card. You can set up your phone at home in minutes. Truly painless! We are very pleased with this solution for Brett.
