Explore! Use their names, do shapes/numbers/letters, use one color or more depending on age of children. Kids can do colored crayon and paint over, project you make use white crayon as you did here. Oil pastels make for a bolder line...have them drizzle glue and let it dry and then paint over...all fun stuff! Actually, we are doing the glue and paint next week with Rabbit's Winter Walk (sneakpeak into winter :-P). That book has great illustrations...check it out!
