Here are a few things I put out each December:
A mini tree to decorate. We just use some little snowflake ornaments and the strings of beads. Plus the candy canes which are really a little too big. 
Little gift boxes with lids. These are always a favorite. These are from the Dollar Tree.
Treasures inside:
The plastic candy canes are probably the most played with in December. I also found these at the dollar store a few years back. A few break each year, but overall, they hold up very well.
