New Years in Chicago

Friday afternoon we left for Chicago. We stopped at IKEA on the way. Found a few things on my list!! We stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn & ate at the Weber Grill.
The planters outside the hotel were so pretty! (The price for valet parking is not but wouldn’t do it any other way down there/this time.)
From our hotel window on the 13th floor. We noticed horns & sirens constantly.
We really enjoyed the Weber Grill! They had a New Year’s Eve special – appetizer, entrée and dessert for $30 so we did that. We both had the shrimp cocktail, I had crab stuffed trout and Damon had the steak. For dessert I had {some} Key Lime Cheesecake {it was huge}! and Damon chose the Double Chocolate Bundt cake. Brett really enjoyed his meal too.
Brett is easy to take anywhere but sometimes, it just gets old. Here he is laying in the bench, bopping around and bugging me with every bump. Always has to stick his tongue out at the camera & irritate. Yep, reminds me of my little brother.  Also makes me think we need to have a real vacation or weekend away without the little guy! Really, I’m glad he can experience things like this with us.
After dinner we went for a little walk. It was a beautiful night! So warm for New Year’s Eve! Lots of people were walking around and not dressed nearly warm enough for this time of the year.  Brett was whining about the boring walk so we didn’t go too far. We fell asleep before 11 pm but woke up at midnight when we heard all the car horns & yelling outside. Neat New Year’s!
The next day we went to Starbucks & then Navy Pier. We went to the Children’s Museum. We’ve never gone with Brett to a Children’s Museum although Gramma R. has taken him in MN.
Brett *loved* building! I wish I had a set of these for my day care. : )
He had a great time digging for dinosaur bones too.
1. trying out the big chair  2.  inventing a machine to wake up the bear 3. interactive screens in the backyard exhibit 4. with the dinosaur skeleton
Next we went to the John Hancock building. We ate at the Cheesecake Factory. Originally we wanted to go to the Lavazza Espression café but the line was long to go up & we didn’t want to pay admission besides. Maybe another time. Brett’s totally freaked out by the height anyway.
We ran into Damon’s cousin & family from New York!
Trains display at the John Hancock Center.
Trying to keep warm! It was sooo cold! The wind was biting and painfully cold. Took my breath away! We didn’t do a lot of walking but enough. We had a great overnight stay in Chicago for New Years!

What a fun way to ring in the new year! Loved looking at your pictures. I'm almost ready for another Chicago run, myself, and that's saying a lot for a country bumpkin like me. :)

We stayed at that Hilton the last time we were down there. It is convenient but yes, expensive valet parking!!
