Ocean Commotion Sea Stars

We’re loving the Experience Early Learning’s Ocean Commotion lessons especially the Sea Star day!  We made some Sea Star Snacks.

To make these fun sea stars:

1. Cut toast into stars shapes with a star cookie cutter.
2. Spread with cream cheese or peanut butter.
3. Dip into rice crispy cereal to make a textured sea star.
4. Enjoy!

Ocean Commotion Sea Stars

We had four different kinds of sea stars to look at. We learned that sea stars have hard, bumpy skin that protects it from its predators. Their diet can include barnacles, snails, sea urchins, clams and mussels. Sea stars eat by wrapping their around around their prey and squeezing them to open the shells.

Our sensory bin includes:

• shells
• stones
• glass beads
• long handled spoons
• blue sand
• sand molds
• star cake pans

Bumpy Sea Star Craft

We painted our sea stars with pastel liquid watercolors. The pastel colors ended up being too pastel, therefore show little color after painting them but it did result in the cardstock curling up the sea star arms. That adds interest I think! Then we used the adhesive bead decorations to decorate the sea stars. They turned out beautiful.
