I am thrilled to have this Play Kitchen Remake project done! I wasn’t sure I was done with it or not, but once I put it in it’s spot, I decided it’s done. I’m so excited to share it with everyone!
I wanted to use the doors or add a curtain to the bottom shelf area, but I decided I like it this way, with the baskets out in the open and easily accessible. If I made this for a daughter it might have been done differently but since it’s for day care and in my living room, no pink girly fabric.
I used paintable beadboard wallpaper on the back of it, even behind the shelf on the bottom section although you don’t really see it. The faucet was a Craigslist find. It was more than I wanted to spend but it fits under the ledge and it’s the right style. The small shelf and baskets came from Goodwill. The bird hook and knobs are from Hobby Lobby. The paint is Behr Cottage White.
Yesterday was the first day it was out to play with. Everyone checked it out and the faucet is a hit! The one little girl I have amongst all the boys right now, physically pushed the boys away and said “give me some space” so she could play! She was very enthralled. The pictures were not very nice with the dark day we had yesterday so I won’t include them.
I haven’t figured the total expense for this project but I know it was cheaper than buying a new play kitchen set and I like this a lot better! It’s also not chintzy “wood”, obnoxious colors and fits perfectly where I need it. Plus it was lots of fun to make!
The man at Menard’s who helped me find a few things said “lots of people come in and say they’re not builders but they are and you are too.” Wow, I guess I am. I figured out how to do a lot of it on my own but Damon did use the saws. Next time I think I can do it.
I might be more excited about it than the kids but that’s okay with me.
