I have to say, I’m loving this new local cooking club I joined. It’s all freezer cooking so it’s easy to make ahead and use when we need it. I did not make these peanut butter cups, but another member of the group did and we’re really enjoying them.
First of all, a little overview of how the group works. I was invited by another member. There’s currently 11 participating. I’m not sure how that number was decided or how it’s controlled, all that occurred before me. We communicate via email and a private Facebook group.
Each member chooses 2-3 recipes, presents them and it’s voted on which will be made. Everyone orders how many should like (person cooking sets limits on how many recipes, what ingredient substitutions, etc.) We have about 1.5 months before we meet again and those orders must be made and frozen in Ziploc bags or pans.
Expenses are calculated and determined per order. One person keeps an awesome spreadsheet. We meet at a members home, once about every 1.5-2 months. Everyone brings a cooler and passes out their orders.
A meal is served, socializing takes place, new recipes are presented and decided upon! You pay for your order minus your expenses so you only pay for what you’re ordering. The first time I spent less on what I ordered than what I prepared. This time was the opposite so I have a credit or a refund. You go home with a wonderful assortment of foods to try and it alleviates the “What are we going to eat tonight?” situation. Everything we’ve tried we’ve really enjoyed.
So far we’ve had these type of things:
- Salmon patties
- breakfast burritos
- blueberry lemon rolls
- broccoli beef
- stuffed french bread
- banana peanut butter bread
It’s just my 2nd month participating but we have these foods in our freezer to try next:
- Black bean burgers
- Chicken apple breakfast sausage
- Chicken vegetable stir fry
- Asian ginger pork chops
- Pizza bites
- Cranberry slush
- Chicken Mushroom & Goat Cheese burrito filling (can’t wait to try this one!)
- Breakfast granola bars
- Quesadilla Burger burgers (like Applebee’s)
- Baked Rigatoni with Sausage, Beans, and Squash
Yes, all these things are in my freezer, ready to eat! What’s not to like about that?! I have to say, I’m kinda picky about eating foods other people have made, but that has not been an issue with this situation at all. All great cooks who enjoy it and do a wonderful job.
I hope to share more of these recipes with you in the future!
