Friends & Feelings: A Caring Card Kids Can Make

How can preschoolers show someone they care? They can smile, say nice words, share, read a book together, help one another or make a card. Teaching young children how to share, care for others, apologize and include others is challenging. The Friends and Feelings weekly theme from Experience Curriculum is all about caring. Children love to show they care by making cards! For one of creative arts activities, we made caring cards, especially for a friend that’s not feeling well.

Directions

  1. Fold paper in half to create a card.
  2. Color and write on the card.
  3. Add the bandages and wiggle eyes to make a silly friend on the card.
  4. Discuss how the card might make a sick person feel better. Invite children to place their cards in envelopes and give it to a friend or family member who may need to feel better.

Teaching children to care for others is important. They need to know they too can make a difference in how someone feels.

We also learned this little song (to the tune of “Row Your Boat”) and talked about a personal message we could write in the card.

Care for Others
Care, care, care for others,
Each and every day.
Give a hug, a smile too,
Encouraging words we say.
