Years ago I made fire safety books with my preschoolers but at the time I really wasn’t sharing anything more than the idea. Since then, I’ve had lots of requests for the pages of the fire safety book. I finally created all new Preschool Fire Safety Booklet Printables! If you are working on a certain skill or idea, you can print just one page or you can print them all and make a book for a fire safety week activity.
The link to download the pages is at the bottom of the post.
This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Miracle-Gro Gro-ables for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.
It’s gardening time again! I look forward to the warm days and watching our garden grow. It’s early for planting yet in Wisconsin, but now’s the time to get seeds started for transplanting. We’re also exploring the colors found in the garden with a Colors of the Garden Homemade Art Book.
More than ever, we’re hearing about “Farm to Table” and the importance of children having access to healthy, fresh fruits and vegetables. Giving children this experience in preschool is invaluable. Most of the preschoolers I care for do not have a garden at home. Children need to learn where food comes from and how foods grow. Growing a garden is such a wonderful way to connect children and nature.
Miracle-Gro® believes that there’s a lot to learn from even the smallest plants. So they started Gro-ables Project. It’s a movement to share the joy of growing herbs and veggies while giving kids truly hands-on learning experiences. See what we’ve done and join us by planting your own Gro-ables and taking part in the activities below. Be sure to share your story too!
Colors of the Garden Book
This is a simple homemade book of colors with a garden theme. Each page is created with process art. I’ve created some printable pages to get you started.
Mix a small amount of potting soil into some brown paint. Paint on white cardstock.
Yellow Sun
Paint a small paper plate with yellow paint. Glue onto blue construction paper page.
Blue Rain Drops
Using a pipette, drip blue paint onto white cardstock.
Orange Carrots
Paint page with orange paper as desired. Try mixing paint to make orange. Cut into triangles and glue onto orange construction paper.
Green Leaves & Stems
Cut pieces of green paper into leaves and stems. Glue onto brown construction paper background.
Purple Flower
Paint hand with purple paint. Make a handprint on white cardstock. Draw leaves and stems and decorate page as desired. Glue onto purple construction paper.
Red Tomatoes
Dip the rim of a paper cup into red paint. Create circles on white cardstock. Glue onto red construction paper.
Layer finished pages between two pieces of construction paper to create a cover and staples pages together into a book.
Starting a Garden with Children
This growing season, we’re going to start our garden with Miracle-Gro Gro-ables. Growing a garden with Gro-ables is very simple. The seed pods come complete with potting soil and plant food to grow a plant. Simply plant, water and watch the seed pod grow!
Each Gro-able is guaranteed to grow. Planting Gro-ables is a simple, fun and educational way to start a garden and spend time with children. The seed pods are much easier for little ones to handle than teeny tiny little seeds.
With Miracle-Gro Gro-ables you can grow a fruit, herb, or vegetable with a simple seed pod. Simply plant, water and watch it grow! After you push the seed pod into loosened soil (until the top is level with the soil’s surface), water it daily. In 1-2 weeks your seed will sprout. Several months after planting, flowers will appear which means it will soon bear fruit.
We are starting our pods indoors in pots since it’s still too cold to plant directly outdoors. The children will love to watch them sprout and grow! I’m looking forward to the large variety of plants we’re going to grow including: basil, spinach, lettuce, eggplant, tomatoes and peppers.
One of my goals has been create more homemade books with my group. They’re fun to make and add a personal element to our environment. Using photos in preschool is a great way to represent each child in the group and show they belong. Children love to see their photos in a book. These photos show how each child is special and unique and a simple way to provide a sense of inclusion in your child care environment. Although this book does not have words, homemade books can also bring another type of print and literacy into a child’s experience.
Our Whose Smile? book highlights how each child is special and different. By focusing on just the child’s smile, we realize how each part of us is truly unique! Looking through the pages, the children can guess who is who. Usually they know, even the little one who isn’t quite two years knows her friends’ smiles!
Making a Whose Smile? Preschool Homemade Photo Book
Simple take a photo of each child. Try near a window or door for natural lighting.
Print photo. I print my photos with my printer on 4×6 photo sheets so there’s no trimming.
Laminate for longer lasting books.
Create cover as desired. I used (affiliate link) PicMonkey to create a collage and add a title.
Punch holes and bind. I used book rings.
A smile book would be a great addition to a dental theme as well!
Last week we worked on these booklets about our five senses of Christmas. My Five Senses of Christmas Printable Booklet is one of my favorite holiday projects! With a little prep these come together quickly. I cut out all the shapes for my group, but if yours are old enough, they could cut out there own if they are printed on colored paper. My group of boys were enthusiastic about creating their pages and sharing it with their parents!
My son brought a booklet like this home in kindergarten or 1st grade. I loved it. I created a template for my group to use (download below) but I do not know who the original author of it is.

The cover can be colored.
Page 1: I like seeing the tree. It is pretty as can be! For the tree, we used colored circle stickers and coloring to decorate the tree.
Page 2: I like hearing bells ring. It makes me want to sing! Bell shape to color or paint & then tape a string with a jingle bell on the back.
Page 3: I like feeling my bear. It is soft like my hair! Bear shape with circle cut out of felt or other soft fabric.
Page 4: I like smelling a spice. I think it is nice! We mixed brown paint, glue and cinnamon to make our scented paint mixture.
Page 5: I like tasting a sweet. It is so much fun to eat! We stuck pieces of white tape to the candy cane shape.

We worked on these All About Me Books in September and October, but I’m just sharing them now. I just sent them home with the kids’ assessments and developmental checklists. There are more pages that could be thought of and added, but these are the ones we did. They worked well with my 2 & 3-year-olds. The kids were very proud of them and their families love them. Make your own All About Me Books with the free printable template below.
All About Me Books
The book template includes a cover page:
“This is me” photo page and “I am ____ years old” page. Add a cake shape, drawing or stamp with numbers. If the child is old enough to write the number herself, she can do that as well.
“My Name” page – we stamped the letters of our names. We also included a self-portrait (face shape and border not included).
My Fingerprints and My Handprints pages created with ink and paint.
“My Favorite Color” page and “My phone number is” page. These pages create a simple All About Me books for toddlers or preschoolers. They make wonderful keepsakes for parents too! Download the All About Me Books template here or click on the pages below:
