Cornstarch Sidewalk Paint

What to do this summer….that’s the question! How about something creative, messy and inexpensive? Have older kids? They can make cornstarch sidewalk paint themselves!

CORNSTARCH SIDEWALK PAINT - THINGS TO SHARE & REMEMBERThese pictures are from last year & this is a recipe I’ve posted about before, but it turned out so much better the last time, that I wanted to post about it again.

This time, I used liquid watercolors to color the paint. Very vibrant! We’ll definitely do this again soon.

NEEDED:

  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • ¼ cup cold water
  • 6 to 8 drops of food coloring or liquid watercolors (for more vibrant color)

DIRECTIONS:

1. Put cornstarch in a small plastic bowl and gradually stir in the cold water.
2. Add your desired food coloring and stir.
3. If the paint still feels too dry, just add a little more water until you get the consistency you prefer. 4. Repeat the process to create different colors.

This sidewalk paint washes off very easily and will not harm surfaces or plants … cornstarch is all natural and biodegradable. It works especially well on asphalt.

I also liked Jamie’s idea, on hands on:: as we grow, of adding baking soda and spray bottles of vinegar to make the paint fizzy. It extends the activity & process beyond using up all the paint!
