Rainbow I Spy Bottles are a fun summer sensory and craft activity for kids of all ages. We made them as part of our Rainbow of Summer Fun for Kids activities. It’s a different way to explore colors.
Using the rainbow rice from the sensory bin, we made Rainbow I Spy Bottles. Simple & fun to make!
- Rainbow Rice (or colored as desired)
- small objects of rainbow colors
- hot glue
- Fill part way with rice.
- Add rainbow items.
- Add more rice if necessary.
- Hot glue cap on.
- Make tag/attach.
Making the I spy bottles requires several steps. Older ones can be given the materials and likely assemble it on their own, whereas younger ones may need step by step instructions. As you can see, children will also be working on eye-hand coordination, fine motor skills and developing their attention span.
This is what we used for the items – just things I already had in my craft supplies. The toothpick is the hardest to find!
Using the photo, I created a tag to remind the children what to search for. As you can see, we used various shaped items too.
Each child got to take one home and there’s one to keep in our sensory area at child care.
