New Year Glitter Names – name writing in preschool
Learning names and letter writing is so important in preschool years. What a great way to start out the new year, focusing on the basics – our own names and creating some glittery art with the letters that make our names.
It’s a simple activity but reinforces the importance of each child’s name, encourages letter writing and uses fine motor skills. One child, while applying the glue to the letters on his paper was saying “Up the hill, down the hill”. 🙂
Sometimes we also glitter the numbers of the new year.
Instructions for this simple name writing activity:
- Child writes name in maker on black paper – we used a black marker. If the child isn’t able to write their name yet, I do it.
- Child squeezes glue from a glue bottle over each letter and anywhere else on the pages as desired. We talked about fireworks and one child designed fireworks above his name.
- Sprinkle with glitter. We used a mixture of colors for a festive feel. We use trays when working with glitter and also tap off the extra glitter onto a paper plate so it can be put back into the shaker jar and reused.
