I received curriculum from Mother Goose Time for honest and authentic stories resulting from my daily experiences in using the curriculum. I applied to be an official Mother Goose Time blogger and will continue to share my experiences throughout the 2014/15 school year.

Learning about Ovals
This month the shape we are concentrating on is the oval. In our Mother Goose Time box, we received oval linking shapes for our math manipulative. We’ve found various ways to use them! Counting up to number 5 or 15 on the math mats –
or simply hooking them together to make a chain.
Making patterns or imprints in play dough. What a great activity! Photo cards with ideas were also included. The oval linking shapes have been a wonderful addition to our math and manipulative collection!
We also received these wonderful dinosaur eggs that we’ve been using in our sensory bin. Another fun hands-on way to learn about the oval shape!
In our My Little Journals, we used a potato to stamp ovals on the page:
We also practiced drawing ovals on the chalkboard. A great way to access abilities and work on small hand muscle strength.
Another way we incorporated learning about the oval shape was using a dinosaur egg to making roll paintings in a box.
They turned out beautiful!
