Sorting Seeds Nature Trays

Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

July has been all about nature activities with the EcoVenture theme from Experience Early Learning. We’re exploring wonders of the trees, air, water, and dirt. You may also like the Nature LettersExploring Seeds, and Tree Age Ring Art.

Sorting Seeds Nature Trays

These pretty little trays didn’t need much of an introduction. I explained that the challenge was to find the seeds. Some are floating and some are not. Can you use the tweezers to sort out the floating seeds and leave the nature items?

It wasn’t long before they also used their fingers to get the seeds out but that was okay too.

Our trays are glass food dishes I filled with water and added nature items from around our garden and yard. Activities that take minutes to set up are my favorite. Add nature and I’m sold!

They were very engaged in this activity. It’s important for kids to work on challenging attention and persistence developing activities.

Fine motor skills and scientific classification skills are also at work. Since I put two different kinds of seeds in the tray, they could have also been sorted into two different cups or trays.

Experience Early Learning has the best well rounded and engaging preschool curriculum out there! I love ideas like this that I wouldn’t have thought of on my own. It makes our days fun and educational – even outside!
