We’re so enjoying our Winter in the woods theme this month! I’m always trying to find ways to really make the theme we’re working with come alive. While shopping for holiday craft supplies, I found several things that go with our theme so pictured making winter in the woods dioramas.
Today I pulled out some cardboard I’ve been saving and shaped them into diorama boxes.
The kids got busy painting them with white, blue and silver glitter paint for snow. I mixed in a little Modge Podge so the snow would stick.
After the paint dried, we sprinkled on the fake snow. Then we started to place objects. Some they could glue on themselves.
Some of the pieces really needed to be hot glued on so I glued them on after they arranged their decorations.
Winter in the Woods Dioramas
Items we used:
- foam stickers
- felt deer shapes
- bottle brush trees
- miniature wreaths
- silver stars
- fake snowballs
- winter berries
- pieces of faux pine garland
- sticks
- snowflake gems
- polyfill
- pinecones
I found most of the items we used at Hobby Lobby. Some of the materials I already had like the polyfill, berries, pinecones, garland and sticks.
You could certainly use more natural items in the scene but here, everything is snow covered and frozen.
My kids were thrilled to make these and their parents were excited to see them! Such a fun project!
It’s a little celebration of winter in a box. A little magical.
Thanks for stopping by to see our winter dioramas! More photos with details below:
