Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down! Jar

UPDATED: Printable available on this post: https://www.thingstoshareandremember.com/thumbs-up-thumbs-down-jar-printable/

Today at circle time I introduced a new activity. Each child drew a slip of paper and then we decided “thumbs up” or “thumbs down”.  I’m trying to reinforce good manners, the rules, and using better words, etc.

This went over *very* well and the kids contributed to the conversation with suggestions and examples. My plan is to keep adding to the jar as I see things we need to address as things come up.   The plastic jar was about $2.00 from Jo-Ann Fabrics.

I also added things like “Give Stacy hugs.”  “Asking for help in the bathroom if you need it.”

Before going out to play, we reviewed the rules:
“Throwing snow at friends” Thumbs up? or thumbs down?
“Sharing swings?”
“Playing with everyone?”
“Pushing?”
“Having fun?”
I hope this continues to be as positive as it is today!

Good afternoon, I would like to use your idea. Do I need permission? It will work great in my class. Thank you!
