Thanksgiving is the perfect time for creating memories with little ones, and one of my all-time favorite traditions is making handprint turkeys. This classic craft is simple and adorable and creates keepsakes that families will cherish for years. Download and print the Cutest Handprint Turkey in the Land template at the bottom of this page.
With a fun rhyme to accompany it, “The Cutest Handprint Turkey in the Land” is a craft that preschoolers love. I originally found this idea on Preschool-Daze, one of my favorite preschool blogs for creative and educational ideas!
Why Handprint Turkeys Are a Thanksgiving Favorite
Handprint turkeys are more than just a craft; they’re a snapshot of your child’s growth. Each little handprint captures a moment in time, making these crafts heartfelt gifts for parents, grandparents, or teachers. They’re easy to create and require minimal supplies, making them perfect for busy educators or parents.

How to Make the Cutest Handprint Turkey
Follow these simple steps to bring this turkey to life!
Materials Needed
- Handprint Turkey Template (Download below)
- Cardstock
- Tempera Paint (variety of colors)
- Sharpie markers (black and orange work great)
- Construction paper (optional for layering)

Step-by-Step Instructions for Making Your Handprint Turkey for Thanksgiving
1. Print the Template
Print the Handprint Turkey Template (found at the end of this post) on sturdy cardstock. This ensures the craft will last for years to come.
2. Add Layers (Optional)
If you want to create a decorative border, layer the cardstock onto a piece of colorful paper before beginning.
3. Make the Handprint
Using washable paint, create your child’s handprint directly on the template. You can also make the handprint on a separate piece of paper first if you want a test run before committing it to the printed page.
4. Add Details
Once the paint dries, use Sharpie markers to draw on the turkeys:
- Beak
- Wattle
- Legs
- Eye
You can make the handprint on a separate piece of paper if you want, before committing it to the printed page, or just go for it and put the handprint right on the printable. I like to just use the printable page so there’s one less step of cutting it out and gluing it on.

If this isn’t the cutest handprint turkey ever! Parents and grandparents will cherish them.
