We’ve been learning about Me & My Family this month, and of course, pets are included. Our cats and dogs are definitely a part of our families! It’s been very fun to focus on dogs and cats with dog tricks, taking care of pets, thinking about the names of cats and dogs we know and more. One thing that cats and dogs both do, is lick. Yep, that’s how a dog might greet you and how a cat stays so clean. It’s amazing how fast a cat has to lick to drink water. Have you ever felt how scratchy a cat’s tongue is? A dog’s tongue is much softer. If you’re looking for kids recipes, Frozen Yogurt Pops that fits in great with a pet theme – pets lick!
Experience Early Learning includes these awesome kids recipes cards each month. I thought this one looked quick, easy and fun. Plus, I already had all the ingredients and materials needed.
We put a spoonful of vanilla yogurt, one spoonful of strawberry yogurt and poured in some frozen blueberries (you can use fresh too, they will mash up better) into a small Ziploc bag. The children used their hands to mix up the yogurt and berries. You may want to use a bigger baggie so there’s less risk of the bag breaking open. One of our did but we talked about being gentle and carefully mixing the ingredients.
Then I snipped a corner off the bag and they squeezed the mixture into a small 3oz Dixie cup.
It can be a little messy but no big deal, we’ll just clean it up when we’re done. Insert a craft stick and pop it into the freezer.
Insert a craft stick and pop it into the freezer. I used a Sharpie to write each child’s name on their cup.
We froze them for about 2.5 – 3 hours. When ready to serve, just peel off the paper cup.
Frozen yogurt pops were a healthy hit for afternoon snack! Everyone licked like puppies and kitties! So fun!
